Word 2008: Modify Default Font and Paragraph

Posted on March 31, 2010

I found Microsoft Word 2008 default font and paragraph was very distracting and decided to look for a permanent way to change this default setting into ‘Times New Roman’ and ‘0 pt paragraph’. Look for the following guidelines on how to do it:

  1. Open Microsoft Word 2008; do not do anything
  2. (Only if you can’t see the Formatting Palette) Click the Toolbox item in the menu
  3. Expand the Styles menu
  4. Hover your cursor over the box that says ‘Normal’, showing a blue down-arrow on the right side
  5. Click the arrow and, in the menu that opens, click Modify Style
  6. Change the ‘Cambria’ to ‘Times New Roman’
  7. Change the ’10 pt paragraph’ by clicking on the icon that has two arrows facing each others
  8. Check the ‘Add to Template’ box towards the bottom of the box
  9. Click OK.
